$120m committed by Premier for marina to be built in Perth’s northern suburbs

The existing Ocean Reef Boat Harbour has been sitting idle for years, awaiting successive state governments and councils to fully fund the proposed marina. During the most recent election campaign Colin Barnett committed to the project if reelected, but with his defeat many thought that well could be it for the Marina, at least for another 4 years.

Premier Mark McGowan surprised many however when he announced that the Ocean Reef Boat Harbour will be converted into a new waterfront precinct, the Ocean Reef Marina development.

Premier Mark McGowan said it would be similar to Hillarys Boat Harbour. It would be much bigger than the marina at Mindarie, about 35 kilometres north of Perth’s CBD.

“It’ll be big, it’ll be fantastic, it’ll have lots of jobs, life and vitality,” Mr McGowan said.

“It’s a great development for Ocean Reef, it’s been sought after now for a long period of time.

“For people living in Ocean Reef, in Joondalup, Wanneroo, all of the hinterland through here, this will be exactly what people are looking for.”

It is set to include apartments and retail developments, along with 550 boat pens.
